Knitting materials and tools:
- Circular or DPN knitting needles 6 mm (UK 4 or US 10);
- Bernat Maker Home Dec – 72% cotton, 28% nylon, 250 grams - 290 m per skein; you can use any bulky yarn you have.
Common abbreviations:
- k – knit
- p – purl
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- sel s – selvage stitch: slip the first stitch purlwise, work to the last stitch, purl the last stitch.
- k3tog – knit three together
- p2tog – purl two together
- yo – yarn over
Notes on sizing and setup: Cast on a multiple of 5 sts plus 4 extra (this includes 2 selvage stitches). Example given here: cast on 19 sts (5 x 3 + 4).
Knitted Regatta Stitch instructions:
Row 1 (RS): sel s, *p2, yo, k3tog; repeat from * to last 3 sts, p2, sel s.
Row 2 (WS): sel s, *k2, yo, p2tog — do not drop the resulting stitches from the left needle; p1 through the first of those stitches, then drop all three stitches from the left needle; repeat from *, k2, sel s.
Repeat Rows 1–2 to continue the pattern.
Tips: Keep your yarn-overs and decreases aligned to maintain the vertical pattern. This stitch works nicely in bulky yarns and produces quick, textured fabric for accessories and home items.
