Norwegian Fir Stitch: Cozy Nordic Knit Pattern for Scarves, Hats & Sweaters

The Norwegian Fir Stitch creates a textured, fir-tree–like motif that adds a Nordic touch to scarves, hats, sweater panels and other winter accessories. It combines yarn overs with paired decreases over a 12-stitch repeat to produce a rhythmic, decorative fabric. This pattern is ideal for knitters comfortable with yarn overs and decreases; once you learn the repeat, the stitch is relaxing and rewarding.

Notes: The sample shown was worked on US size 8 needles using Premier Yarn Anti-Pill Everyday Worsted in Admiral Blue (see photo). Cast on a multiple of 12 sts + 1. Work the stitch pattern as written and adjust needle size or yarn as needed to achieve the drape you prefer.
