Knitting materials and tools:

  • DPN 4 mm (UK 8 or US 6)
  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran (55% wool, 12% cashmere, 33% acrylic). Baby pink: 50 g – 90 m per skein.

Common abbreviations:

  • k – knit
  • p – purl
  • st(s) – stitch(es)
  • sel s – selvage stitch: slip the first stitch purlwise, work to the last stitch and purl the last stitch

Notes: Cast on a multiple of 8 sts, plus 6 extra sts, plus 2 selvage stitches.

Basketweave stitch instructions (12-row repeat):

Row 1 (RS): sel s, *p4, k4* – repeat from * to *, p4, sel s.

Row 2: sel s, *k1, p2, k1, p4* – repeat to last pattern section, k1, p2, k1, sel s.

Row 3 (RS): Repeat Row 1.

Row 4: Repeat Row 2.

Row 5 (RS): Repeat Row 1.

Row 6: Repeat Row 2.

Row 7 (RS): sel s, *k4, p4* – repeat from * to *, k4, sel s.

Row 8: sel s, *p4, k1, p2, k1* – repeat to last pattern section, p4, sel s.

Row 9 (RS): Repeat Row 7.

Row 10: Repeat Row 8.

Row 11 (RS): Repeat Row 7.

Row 12: Repeat Row 8.

Repeat Rows 1–12 to continue the pattern for the length required.

Tips:

  • Keep your selvage stitches consistent to create neat edges.
