Quick & Cozy Knitted Rectangular Scarf Pattern — Easy Beginner Project

Materials and tools
- Circular or double pointed knitting needles, 9 mm (US 13/UK 00)
- Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick (6 – super bulky) – 20% wool, 80% acrylic. Color of your choice. In total: about 170 grams.
Size and gauge
Gauge: 9–10 stitches = 4 inches in half double crochet ribbing (as stated).

Abbreviations
- k – knit
- sel s – selvage stitch: slip the first stitch knitwise, work to the last stitch, knit the last stitch.
Pattern
Cast on 25 stitches.
Row 1: sel s, knit all other stitches, sel s.
Repeat Row 1 until the piece measures 45 cm (17.7”).
Bind off all stitches. You can use a traditional bind off, but a Scandinavian bind off gives a neat, decorative edge especially on garter-type pieces.
Scandinavian bind off (as described)
Insert the tip of the right-hand needle purlwise, holding it in front of the work, then insert the tip of the same needle knitwise into the second stitch, wrap the yarn and pull it through. Slip both stitches off the left-hand needle. Return the stitch from the right-hand needle to the left-hand needle. Repeat from these steps until you bind off all stitches.

Finishing
Cut the yarn and leave a tail of at least 20–25 cm for weaving in. Weave in ends neatly on the wrong side of the work. If desired, lightly steam or wet-block the scarf to even out stitches — be cautious with synthetic blends and follow yarn care instructions.

- Swap yarn colors or use variegated yarn for visual interest.
- To make a longer scarf, continue repeating Row 1 until you reach your preferred length.
- If you prefer a thicker result, hold a second strand of yarn together (check tension and adjust stitch count if needed).
