Easy Knitted Ribbon Bookmark — Quick Garter-Stitch Pattern

Add a touch of handmade charm to your reading with this simple Knitted Ribbon Bookmark. Worked in garter stitch and knitted sideways, it creates a neat, textured strip that’s threaded with ribbon to mark your place and add a pop of color. The pattern is short and uses small amounts of yarn and ribbon—great for using up oddments.

Easy Knitted Ribbon Bookmark — Quick Garter-Stitch Pattern

Knitted ribbon bookmark in garter stitch, threaded with ribbon to create a finished marker for your pages.

Materials

  • Oddments of DK yarn
  • Small length of ribbon
  • 4 mm needles

Notes

Worked sideways in garter stitch (every row knit). The pattern creates an eyelet row for threading the ribbon.

Pattern

  1. Cast on 30 stitches.
  2. Knit 5 rows.
  3. Next row: Knit 1, yarn forward (yfd), knit 2 together; repeat across to last stitch, knit 1. (This creates an eyelet row.)
  4. Knit 5 rows.
  5. Cast off.
  6. Weave in ends.
  7. Thread ribbon through the eyelet row, leaving a length of ribbon extending from both ends.

Finishing tips

Adjust the number of cast-on stitches if you prefer a wider or narrower bookmark. Use a contrasting ribbon for a decorative finish or a matching ribbon for a subtle look.
