Knitted Orchard Stitch: Charming Two-Row Repeat for Scarves, Blankets & More
The Knitted Orchard Stitch is an easy-to-memorize two-row textured pattern that creates small clustered motifs reminiscent of fruit in an orchard. It adds a subtle, bumpy texture to scarves, blankets, baby items and trims while remaining quick to work—great for both small projects and larger yardage items.

Knitting materials and tools:
- DPN 4 mm (UK 8 or US 6)
- Debbie Bliss (Cashmerino Aran) 55% Wool, 12% Cashmere, 33% acrylic. Baby pink color: 50 grams - 90 m per skein.
Common abbreviations:
- k – knit
- p – purl
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- sel s – selvage stitch: slip the first stitch purlwise, work to the last stitch, purl the last stitch.
Knit Orchard Stitch pattern notes:
Cast on a multiple of 3 sts + 2 extra sts + 2 selvage sts. (Example: 31 sts total in the sample.)
Row 1 (RS): sel s, *p2, k1* – repeat from * to *, p2, sel s.
Row 2 (WS): sel s, *purl all stitches*, sel s.
Repeat Rows 1–2 to form the pattern until the piece reaches the desired length.
Tips and finishing:
- Work a small swatch to see how the texture looks in your yarn and to decide on needle size; the stitch is a two-row repeat and is easy to check visually.
- Keep the selvage stitches consistent (slip first stitch purlwise and purl the last stitch) for a neat edge that is easier to seam or pick up along.
- When you have completed the work, bind off in pattern and gently block the piece to even the texture and open the little clusters if desired.
This simple repeat creates a charming, slightly raised surface that looks more intricate than it is—perfect when you want texture without complex stitchwork.
