Quick & Cute Knitted Pins and Needle Holder — Easy DK Yarn Pattern

Keep your knitting needles and pins tidy with this quick, attractive knitted pins and needle holder. Made from leftover DK yarn and a single button, this small folded case is an ideal scrap-busting project that’s practical and pretty. It’s worked flat in two pieces (outer cover and inner lining) then sewn together and finished with a button and a simple stitch-through closure.

Materials:

• Leftover DK yarn in 2 colours
• 4 mm (US 6) knitting needles
• Button

Outer cover

Cast on 20 stitches.

Knit 3 rows.

Next row (buttonhole row): knit 9, yarn forward, knit 2 together, knit to end.

Next rows (rib):

Row 1: k1, p1 repeat to end.

Row 2: k1, p1 repeat to end.

Continue with the following 4-row pattern:

Row 1: knit.

Row 2: knit.

Row 3: k1, p1 repeat to end.

Row 4: k1, p1 repeat to end.

Repeat these 4 rows 18 times, ending with rows 3 and 4. Knit 4 rows, then cast off. Weave in loose ends.

Inside (lining)

Cast on 16 stitches in the contrast colour.

Knit every row (garter stitch) until the piece measures 12.5 cm. Cast off.

To make up

Fold the lining to find its centre. With the contrast yarn held double, leave a length of yarn for joining. Starting at the fold on the outer cover, stitch through both outer and lining layers and bring the needle through to the inside; take the needle out again and repeat as required to secure the lining to the cover. Leave matching lengths of yarn so the two can be tied together and knotted. Tie knots in the loose ends and trim.

Sew the button to the inside of the outer cover, aligned with the buttonhole.

Tips

• Use a tapestry needle to neatly weave in ends and to join the lining and cover.
• Adjust stitch counts or repeats if you want a wider or narrower case — keep the buttonhole placement centred for best results.
