Cozy Knitted Table Centre Mat — Easy Picot & Ribbon Edge Pattern

Add a handmade touch to your table with this simple knitted table centre mat. The small rectangular mat features picot edges and a decorative "ribbon" row worked into stocking stitch. The pattern uses double knit yarn and 4 mm needles and is worked flat to a length of about 20 cm before finishing.

Materials

• Double knit yarn
• 4 mm needles

Finished length: work until piece measures 20 cm (see instructions)

Instructions

1. Cast on 40 stitches.
2. Starting with a knit row, work 4 rows in stocking stitch (1 row knit, 1 row purl).
3. Next row: k1, *yfd, k2 tog; repeat from * to end (Picot edge).
4. Next row: purl.
5. Knit 4 more rows in stocking stitch.
6. Next row: k1, *yfd, k2 tog; repeat from * to end (ribbon row).
7. Next row: purl.
8. Continue in stocking stitch until work measures 20 cm, knitting 2 stitches at each end of the purl row.
9. Next row: k1, *yfd, k2 tog; repeat from * to end (ribbon row).
10. Next row: purl.
11. Knit 4 more rows in stocking stitch.
12. Next row: k1, *yfd, k2 tog; repeat from * to end (Picot edge).
13. Next row: starting with a purl row, work 4 rows in stocking stitch.
14. Cast off.

To make up: Fold up the picot edge and stitch in place to form the finished edge.
