Gauge: 5 stitches per inch 7 rows per inch

Yarn: Worsted weight

Part 1: Ribbed Cuff
Using #5 double pointed needles cast on 36 stitches. Divide evenly
between three needles 12 stitches per needle. K2 P2 for 3 1/2 inches to
form ribbed cuff.

Part 2: Thumb Gusset and body of mitten. Work in rounds.
Rows 1-6: For the next 6 rows knit even.
Row 7: Thumb Gusset. K2 increase 1 stitch in next stitch by knitting into the front and back. K1
increase 1 in next stitch by knitting into the front and back. Knit to end of round. 38 stitches.
Row8: Knit around
Row 9: K2, place marker, increase 1 stitch in next stitch by knitting into the front and back. K3 increase 1
in next stitch by knitting into the front and back. Place marker. Knit to end of round. 40 stitches.
Row 10: Knit around
Row 11: K2 shift marker. Increase 1 stich in next stitch. K5, increase 1 stitch in next stitch. Shift marker. Knit to end of round. 42 stitches.
Rows 12-16: Knit around. 42 stitches.
Row 17: K2. Slip the next 9 stitches (between markers) on holder for thumb. Cast on 3 stitches to needle with the 2 stitches. Knit to end of round (36 stitches). Work around until mitten, when tried on, reaches to the tip of your little finger. Note on sizing: On my hands, the tip of my little finger ends up just short of the first joint of my ring finger which in turn is a bit shorter (1/2″) than my middle finger. Allow additional length if your hand is shaped differently or to allow for your manicure. ?

Part 3: Finishing off the body of the mitten
Row 1: *K4 K2 together. Repeat from * around. 30 stitches.
Row 2: Knit around.
Row 3: *K3 K2 together. Repeat from * around. 24 stitches.
Row 4: Knit around.
Row 5: *K2 K2 together. Repeat from * around. 18 stitches.
Row 6: Knit around.
Row 7: *K1 K2 together. Repeat from * around. 12 stitches.
Row 8: Knit around.
Row 9: K2 together around. 6 stitches.

Break off yarn. Thread yarn on yarn needle and draw through remaining stitches.
Fasten securely on wrong side and weave in end.

Part 4: Thumb body
Transfer 9 stitches from the stitch holder to three needles. Splitting them 4-4-1. Picking
up 5 on third needle around remainder of opening. 14 stitches.

Work in rounds until mitten thumb, when tried on, reaches the tip of
thumb. Again, allow for that fabulous manicure. ?

Part 5: Finishing off thumb
Round 1: *K3 K2 together. Repeat from * around.
Round 2: Knit around.
Round 3: *K1 K2 together. Repeat from * around.

Break off yarn. Thread yarn on yarn needle and draw through remaining stitches. Fasten securely on wrong side and weave in end.
