Finished scarf showing textured ribbon and chunky yarn sections.

Skill Level:

Easy

Yarn:

  • LB Collection® Silk Chiffon Ribbon Yarn ~ 1 skein
  • Any coordinating chunky yarn/thick and thin yarn ~ 90 yds
  • ~or~
  • Lion Brand Heartland Thick & Quick® Yarn ~ 1 skein
  • Lion Brand Homespun® Yarn ~ 125 yds (just under 1 skein)

Needles:

US 19/16 mm

Gauge:

Not so important.

Size:

6~8” wide by 5~6’ long

Stitches and abbreviations used:

  • CO ~ cast on
  • K ~ knit
  • P ~ purl
  • YO ~ yarn over

Getting Started:

Hold 2 strands of yarn together as one unless you prefer a single-strand look. There are 2 sizes in this pattern: the first size is for the silk and handspun yarn combination; the second size (numbers in parentheses) is for the Heartland and Homespun yarns.

When working with the silk chiffon, it may separate at a seam. If that happens, knot it back together — the little ends can add character — or sew the seams for a neater finish.

Pattern:

Co 9 (12)

Row 1~ 3: K all. (9 (12) sts)

Row 4: (K1, yo twice) 3 (4) times, (K1, yo) 3 (4) times, K to end. (18 (24) loops around needle (sts and yos combined))

Row 5: K each st, drop each yarn over. (9 (12) sts)

Row 6 ~ 8: K all. (9 (12) sts)

Repeat rows 4 ~ 8 to desired length.

Bind off.

Weave in all ends.

Notes:

  • Gauge is flexible—this pattern is designed to be forgiving.
  • Experiment with color changes and yarn textures to emphasize the playful, gameboard-inspired look.
  • If you prefer a tidier finish when using ribbon yarn, sew seams where the ribbon separates instead of knotting.
