Materials:
- US #10½ (6.5 mm) needles
- US #15 (10 mm) needles
- 1 stitch marker
- 2 balls Super Bulky (#6) yarn in your favorite colors (main color + optional second color)
- 1 tapestry needle
Instructions:
1. Cast on 44 stitches with US #10½ needles, using the main color.
2. Place marker and work 1x1 rib (k1, p1) until the band measures 1½" (this forms the hat brim).
3. Switch to US #15 needles. Knit 1 row while increasing 1 stitch every 4 stitches across the row. End with one increase. You should now have 55 stitches total.
4. Knit one row.

Add color (optional):
• Row: *K4 with main color, k1 with second color*, repeat from * to * until the end of the row.
(Tip: Do not squeeze your stitches when knitting with the second color—you need room to carry the color on the back of the work. If carried too tightly, stitches will look stretched when you put the hat on.)
• Knit 4 rows.
• Next row: K1 with main color, k1 with second color, *k4 main color, k1 second color*, repeat until end of row, end with k3.
• Knit 4 rows.
• Next row: K3 main color, k1 second color, *k4 main color, k1 second color*, repeat until end of row, end with k1.

• Main color: *K2tog, k1*, repeat until end of row.
• Main color: *K2tog, k1*, repeat until end of row.
• Main color: k2tog until the end of the row.
• Cut the main color leaving a tail. Thread the tail onto your tapestry needle and pass it through all remaining stitches (start at the stitch next to the one you finished). Pull firmly to close the opening at the top of the hat and secure the yarn tail on the inside.
Final touch:
Make a fluffy pom pom and sew it to the top of the hat.
