Sweetest Knitted Baby Blanket Pattern — Easy Super-Bulky #6 Tutorial (42 x 42 in)
Knitted baby blankets are cozy, practical, and a heartfelt handmade gift. This easy "Sweetest" baby blanket uses super-bulky/#6 yarn and large needles to work up quickly into a soft 42 x 42 inch square — perfect for a crib, stroller or snuggling on the couch. Follow the simple 4-row repeat for a gentle textured look; the pattern is beginner-friendly and easy to size up or down.

Caption: Sweetest Knit Baby Blanket made with Bernat Baby Blanket yarn in the "Pretty Girl" colorway.
Materials:
- US 15 (10 mm) knitting needles (I used 24” circular needles because of the many stitches cast on for the blanket)
- Approx. 440 yards of super bulky/#6 weight yarn (I used 2 balls of Baby Blanket by Bernat in the "Pretty Girl" colorway)
- Yarn/tapestry needle
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
Size: 42 inches wide x 42 inches tall. To change sizing, see the pattern notes below for stitch multiples (width) and row repeats (height).
Pattern notes: The blanket is worked flat in a 4-row repeat. Easily change the blanket width by adjusting the number of cast-on stitches (any even number). Change the height by working more or fewer repeats of the 4-row pattern.
Abbreviations:
- yo – yarn over
- k2tog – knit two together
- RS – right side of the work
- CO – cast on
- BO – bind off
Sweetest Knit Baby Blanket Pattern:
CO 76 stitches (multiple is any even number)
Row 1 (RS): Knit all stitches across.
Row 2: Purl all stitches across.
Row 3: K1, then * (yo, k2tog). Repeat from * until there is just 1 stitch left, then K1.
Row 4: Knit all stitches across.
Repeat rows 1–4 until desired blanket height, ending on Row 2. BO all stitches. Break yarn and fasten off.
Finishing: Weave in any ends with a yarn/tapestry needle. Gently shape the blanket if needed and smooth any uneven edges with light steam or gentle blocking if the yarn permits (follow yarn care instructions).
Tips:
- Using 24” circular needles makes managing a large number of stitches easier, even when knitting flat.
- Because this uses super-bulky yarn, the blanket works up quickly—check length after a few pattern repeats to adjust height to your preference.
- To change width, cast on any even number of stitches and follow the same 4-row repeat.
