Knit horizontal buttonhole instructions:

Cast on 15 sts. Knit in garter stitch 10 rows.

Rows 1-10: sel s, knit all sts, sel s.

Row11: sel s, k4, bind of next 5 sts without working yarn (slip next 2 stitches to the right-hand needle, *insert the tip of left-hand needle into the first slipped stitch and pass the stitch over the second slipped stitch (1 stitch is bound off), slip 1 stitch to the right-hand needle and repeat from * 4 more time. Return last stitch to the left-hand needle and cast on 5 sts. k4, sel s.

Row 12: sel s, k3, pick up one part of the V-stitch of the previous row and place it on the left-hand needle, k2tog (the stitch you just picked up and next stitch), k5, repeat what we have just done to strengthen another side of buttonhole. Pick up one part of the V-stitch of the previous row and place it on the left-hand needle, k2tog, k3, sel s.

Go on knitting in garter stitch until the next buttonhole.
