MATERIALS
South West Trading Company, Phoenix [100% Soy Silk Ribbon Yarn; 200 yards per 113g skein]; Purple; 1 skein
1 set US #7/4.5mm straight needles
2 small and 1 large button
1 dozen straight pins
tapestry needle
GAUGE
20 sts/28 rows = 4" in stockinette stitch
DIRECTIONS
Pouch
Using the cable method, CO 30 sts.
Work in st st until piece measures 7 inches from beg.
P 1 row.
Work in st st until piece measures 14 inches from beg.
BO.
Fold bag in half at the 3.5" mark and pin down sides to create first pocket. Rep on other side. Make sure each side is equal and centered and then mattress stitch up the side seams. Fold in half.
Handle
Using cable CO, CO 30 stitches, then, using backward loop CO, CO an additional 2 sts.
K3, slide 3 sts back to left hand needle and rep 10 times (or until extension is big enough to fit around small button).
With all sts back on left needle, k3tog.
BO in purl to last st then, using backward loop CO, CO 2 sts.
Rep I-cord buttonhole until desired length.
Next row: K3tog and BO last st.
Center buttonloop
Find center three stitches on the bottom crease of the bottom pouch.
Pick up 3 sts and work I-cord as above until piece measures 1.5".
CO 2 sts, k3, slide back to left hand needle and rep for 10 rows (or until extension is big enough to fit around large button).
Next row: K3tog and BO rem sts.
Sew on small buttons one stitch in from the first and last stitch on the purl row of pouch. Sew on big button five rows up from bottom edge of top pouch and centered on stitch #15.Weave in all ends. Do not wash or steam soy silk, as it tends to take the shine off and reduce the color.
The purse should be ready to go with no blocking needed.
