Materials

  • Yarn – Bulky Weight #5 - 160 - 180 yds / 146 – 165 m
  • Feel free to use any fiber and colors of your choice.
  • My scarf sample was knit in Cascade 128 Superwash Merino Wool in the beige color Feather Grey 875, which required 2 skeins total.

Tools

  • Size 10 US (6 mm) – Circular needles 24" in length
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Scissors
  • Knitting Blocks and T-Pins (optional)

Instructions

This printable pattern is specifically for the Short Cowl Size (12" x 24") in one yarn color. For other sizes and multi-color designs, please see yarn amount and pattern specifics in the above post.

Step 1: Cast On

Cast On 84 Stitches onto your straight knitting needles.

Step 2: Cowl Body in Long Raindrops Stitch

  1. Row 1: * K1, P1 *
  2. Row 2: * K1, P1 *
  3. Row 3: * K1, P1 *
  4. Row 4: * K1, P1 *
  5. Row 5: * P1, K1 *
  6. Row 6: * P1, K1 *
  7. Row 7: * P1, K1 *
  8. Row 8: * P1, K1 *

Repeat rows 1 - 8. Knit 6 Row Repeats for a total of 48 rows of the Long Raindrops Stitch, or until your cowl is the height you desire.

Step 3: Cast Off and Finish

  • Cast Off all stitches;
  • Weave in your yarn ends;
  • Wet-block - recommended, but optional.

Notes:

Cowl Size: is 12 x 24 inches (31 x 61 cm).

Knitting Gauge in Long Raindrops Stitch Pattern 4" x 4" = 14 stitches x 16 rows
