4mm needles

Pattern:

Make two mittens

CUFF

Using main colour, cast on 29sts

1^st Row: S1, * k1, p1, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2

2^nd Row: S1, * p1, k1, repeat from * to end

3^rd Row: Using contrast colour, knit across row

4^th Row: S1, * p1, k1, repeat from * to end

5^th Row: Using main colour, knit across row

6^th Row: S1, * p1, k1, repeat from * to end

Repeat last 4 rows twice more

Cut off contrast colour and continue in main colour only

HAND

1^st Row: Knit - inc in the first and last stitches (31sts)

2^nd Row: and all following even rows - Purl

3^rd Row: K14, inc in next 2 sts, k15 (33sts)

5^th Row: K14, inc in next st, k2, inc in next st, k15 (35sts)

7^th Row: K14, inc in next st, k4, inc in next st, k15 (37sts)

9^th Row: K14, inc in next st, k6, inc in next st, k15 (39sts)

11^th Row: K14, inc in next st, k8, inc in next st, k15 (41sts)

12^th Row: P26, turn

THUMB

K11, turn

Working on these centre 11sts only work a further 5 rows

K2tog, k2tog, k2tog, k2tog, k3tog

Cut off yarn leaving a tail. Draw a needle through these 5sts. Draw up tightly and fasten off.

TOP

With wrong side facing, rejoin yarn to last 15sts left on the needle, purl 15

Continue on 30sts, - work 4 rows
