Common abbreviations of knit stitches:
k – knit
p – purl
sel s – selvage stitch: always slip the first stitch knitwise, work to the last stitch, purl the last stitch
Combo stitch knitting pattern:
Cast on a number multiple of 6 sts, plus 4 extra stitches, plus 2 selvage stitches.
Row 1: sel s, [k5, p1] – repeat across, k4, sel s.
