- Straight and double-pointed needles No. 15.
- 2 buttons (diameter 30 mm, brass).
Main pattern: mock rib pattern. The number of stitches is a multiple of 4 + 1.
1st row (WS): * 1 purl st, 3 knit sts, repeat from *, 1 purl st. 2nd row: 2 knit sts, * 1 purl st, 3 knit sts, repeat from *, 1 purl st, 2 knit sts. Repeat 1st and 2nd rows.
Pattern with elongated stitches: an odd number of stitches.
1st row (RS): edge st, * 1 knit st, 1 elongated st, repeat from *, 1 knit st, edge st. To make an elongated st, knit the st but do not drop it from the left needle; pull the yarn forward, wrap it around the thumb, and extend the loop to about 5 cm; then, move the yarn back again and knit another knit st from the same st, then drop the loop from the left needle; make 1 yarn over on the right needle, then draw the yarn over through the 2 knit elongated sts.
2nd row: knit all sts. 3rd row: edge st, * 1 elongated st, 1 knit st, repeat from *, 1 elongated st, edge st. 4th row: knit all sts. 5th and 6th rows: knit as 1st and 2nd rows. Complete once from 1st to 6th row.
Gauge, main pattern: 6 sts and 8 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm.
Edge stitches: make 2 edge sts at the vest's fronts. For this, at the beginning of WS rows (left front), knit the first st through the back loop, then slip 1 st purlwise (yarn in front), at the end of the row (right front), slip the penultimate st purlwise (yarn in front) and knit the last st; in RS rows, bring the yarn forward and slip the first edge st purlwise, knit the next st, at the end of the row, knit the penultimate st, then bring the yarn forward and slip the last st purlwise. On the edges of the armholes, knit edge sts in RS rows knitwise, in WS rows purlwise.
Work description:
Back and fronts: knit in one piece up to the armholes. Cast on 65 (73) sts = 18 (20) sts for the fronts and 29 (33) sts for the back. Knit with the main pattern, starting with a purl row, and make 2 edge sts on both sides. After 44 cm from the cast-on edge for the armhole, knit 17 (19) sts and set aside, bind off 2 sts, knit 27 (31) sts and set aside, bind off 2 sts. On the next 17 (19) sts, finish the left front. At the same time, for the armhole, bind off from the right edge 1 more time 1 st = 16 (18) sts.
After 52 (54) cm from the cast-on edge, for the neckline, bind off from the left edge 1 time 5 sts, then in every 2nd row 1 time 2 sts and 1 time 1 st. After 62 (64) cm from the cast-on edge, bind off the remaining 8 (10) shoulder sts straight. On the set-aside 27 (31) sts, finish the back. Start with a WS row and for the armholes, bind off 1 st on both sides 1 more time = 25 (29) sts. After 62 (64) cm from the cast-on edge, bind off all sts. Finish the right front symmetrically to the left front.
Assembly: sew the shoulder seams. For the collar, pick up 37 sts along the neckline edge and knit 1 WS row purl, then knit 6 rows of the pattern with elongated stitches; bind off the sts. For the armhole edges, on double-pointed needles, pick up 20 (24) sts and knit 1 circular row knitwise, then knit 6 rounds of the pattern with elongated stitches, in odd circular rows repeat the pattern from * to *, in even circular rows knit the sts purlwise. After 6 circular rounds, bind off the sts. Sew the buttons to the fronts: one at the neckline edge, the second 13 cm below.
